Atelier Léopoldine: nimble, creative garment making

Over the past ten years, Atelier Léopoldine has established itself as a key partner in the development and garment making of fashion, apparel and textile accessory collections. The workshop, run by Véronique Bouchs, combines agility, high standards and creativity to support both young designers and established brands.

At its helm, the founder has built a structure in her image: innovative and deeply attached to savoir-faire. "Nour leitmotiv is to give small entities access to industrial production", she asserts. From design to production, Atelier Léopoldine has established itself as a true development ally, capable of meeting the most demanding challenges.

 

Technical expertise for complex projects

Created in 2015, Atelier Léopoldine has grown by responding to the often particular needs of brands: small quantities, complex products, strict normative constraints. "Those who come to us, it's either for questions of volume, technicality or time", expresses Véronique Bouchs.

With a versatile team of ten people, including 2 on occasional back-up, the 36-machine workshop masters knits as well as warp and weft. It can make all types of men's, women's and children's products, with specialties in swimwear and women's clothing and more specific ones such as sweaters, traditional jackets, riding gear, accessories and approved baby carriers. "We're constantly reworking all our assembly ranges to comply with new standards. Five-legged sheep are for us", asserts the manager. This ability to find tailor-made technical solutions has enabled the workshop to forge relationships of trust with demanding brands, just like its collaborations with suppliers to the greatest luxury Houses.

Investment in digital tools like Lectra has reinforced this expertise: placement, tracing and mutualization of cutting among partners... So many assets to optimize costs and win over new customers."Ces évolutions nous donnent accès à des sphères et des clients qu'on n'aurait jamais atteint autrement", Véronique emphasizes.

 

The Product development unit: at the heart of added value

The backbone of the workshop, "the product development unit sees 60% of its developments go into production", explains the manager. Véronique Bouchs is the sole person in charge, and makes it a point of honor to accompany her customers from idea to prototype: "The biggest part of our business is 'doing everything' for the customer: sourcing, development, production. We can even assist with business planning and branding", she explains.

But to provide so many services, the workshop takes the time for each new project to begin with an in-depth exchange with the designer, enabling him or her to assess the level of involvement and stage of progress: technical file, moodboard, technical diagnosis... Precise work that results in prototypes validated step by step, guaranteeing impeccable quality. The workshop claims less than 1% of defective products, thanks to checks at every stage of production.

Agility is the watchword: small batches from ten pieces upwards, semi-measurement for artists, full technical files for brands wishing to internalize their production: "our philosophy is to give the customer the opportunity to be small. One day, he may be big", Véronique Bouchs insists.

 

An entrepreneurial vision embodied

In ten years, Atelier Léopoldine has built a business model based on project diversity and customer loyalty. "Having several customers means avoiding dependency. We stay agile", explains Véronique. Trade shows, where the workshop has been present since 2023 (Première Vision Made In France, Interfilière), have enabled it to expand its customer base internationally: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands. "MIF is highly sought after abroad, these are customers who understand and directly accept the garment making price. Before going to trade shows, we only had French customers, or even only regional ones", she confides.

CSR is at the heart of its organization: eco-designed building, energy optimization, ergonomic workstations, and customized training protocols for each employee. The workshop takes on interns and work-study students on a permanent basis, and supports its team in upgrading their skills over an 18-month period. The goal: to reach the level of the greatest luxury Houses. "In five years, we want to work on Hand stitch, tailoring, flou... and attract the greatest luxury Houses", projects Véronique. A permanent logic of improvement and development as she explains"at the end of 2020 we brought in IFTH to make a diagnosis in order to invest in Lectra V8 3D because we had a budget from the garment making of masks during the health crisis."

At the same time, the workshop is developing its own brand, Moon Bloom, dedicated to the children's ceremony. An adventure that illustrates its ambition: to combine artisanal and creative excellence, innovation and proximity, while consolidating the influence of Made in France.
